The catamaran is the boat most Croatian charter groups want and the one fewest of them price correctly. It is wider, flatter, brighter below and considerably more expensive than the monohull with the same cabin count, and in July and August the good ones are gone from every Dalmatian base months ahead. Booking one late is the most reliable way to pay the top of a Croatian price range.
The published Croatian catamaran figures
Croatia Yachting prices its catamarans per boat at Yachtclub Seget in Marina Baotic, Seget Donji, where a four cabin Bali Catspace read from 1.376 and a four cabin Lagoon 42 from 1.776. Against the same company's three cabin Hanse 415 monohull at from 752, the catamaran premium is not a rounding difference: it is roughly double for a boat carrying one more cabin.
Why the premium exists at all
A catamaran takes close to two berths' worth of marina space and is charged accordingly along the coast, carries two engines to service, and costs more to buy in the first place. Fleets price all of that into the week. What you get back is a boat that does not heel, has a cockpit the whole group can sit in at once, and gives every cabin its own side of the boat, which in a week with two families aboard is worth more than the sailing performance you gave up.
Berthing a catamaran on the Dalmatian coast
The practical catch is space. Croatian town quays fill from the early afternoon in season and the catamaran berths go first, because there are fewer of them and every other catamaran wants one. Crews used to monohulls plan to arrive an hour earlier than they would otherwise, or plan for anchorages, which in Croatia is no hardship: the bays are the better half of the coast anyway.
Booking it early enough to matter
Croatian catamaran availability in July and August is effectively decided by the previous autumn. A group that decides in April is choosing from what is left rather than from the fleet, and the boat that is left is usually older, bigger than wanted, or at a base further from the airport. If a catamaran is the point of the holiday, book the boat first and fit the dates to it.
