The Grenadines are thirty two islands over sixty miles between St Vincent and Grenada, most of them empty, and they carry no large charter base of their own. Every week here is sailed in from one end or the other, which makes the direction you choose the single most consequential decision of the booking.
What it costs to get on the chain
Read on 11 September 2026, The Moorings prices a seven day charter for two from 2,464 USD out of St Lucia at the northern end and 2,634 out of Grenada at the southern, with crewed yachts from 13,949 and to 16,149 respectively. Sailo lists 16 boats inside St Vincent and the Grenadines themselves at an average of 2,542 USD a day, which is the local day market rather than a week.
North to south, or south to north
The trade wind is from the east and slightly north of it, so sailing south from St Lucia is a beam reach and sailing north from Grenada is a beat with a foul current. Almost every one way week goes south. A round trip from either end is the same week done twice and is genuinely hard work in the second half. Flying home from the other end is the arrangement worth paying for.
The chain itself
Bequia first, an hour from St Vincent and the only island with a town. Then Mustique, Canouan, Mayreau, the Tobago Cays and Union Island, then Carriacou and down to Grenada. The Tobago Cays are four uninhabited islands behind a horseshoe reef and are the reason people come. There are almost no marinas and few mooring balls, so this is an anchoring week in a way the British Virgin Islands is not.
The two borders
St Vincent and the Grenadines and Grenada are separate countries and Carriacou is Grenadian while Union Island is not, so a one way week clears customs twice. Union Island and Carriacou are the usual ports at the southern end and Bequia at the northern. Budget an hour ashore at each and carry the boat papers the base gives you.
