Superyacht charter Bahamas: what the published top of this market is, and why draught decides where a large yacht can go

The Bahamas is the one large yacht destination in the western hemisphere where the constraint is depth rather than berths. Nassau and Paradise Island take yachts of any size, but the cruising that makes the country worth visiting is two to four metres deep over enormous areas, and a boat drawing four metres is excluded from most of it.

What the published top looks like

Read on 11 September 2026, The Moorings' Exumas range runs to 49,919 USD for seven days and two people at the crewed end, and its Abacos range to 24,179. Sailo's Nassau listings top out at 11,810 USD a day across 161 boats. Those are the ceilings of the published market rather than of the market itself: the largest yachts in the Bahamas are chartered through brokers who publish nothing, and their weekly rates are in the hundreds of thousands.

The draught problem

The Exuma banks run two to four metres for a hundred miles and the cuts between the cays shoal at their edges. A fifty metre motor yacht drawing four metres is confined to the deep water on the Exuma Sound side and to a handful of approaches, which is why the large boats anchor off the cuts and run tenders in rather than taking the yacht through. The genuinely good anchorages here belong to shallow boats.

Where the large boats do go

Nassau and Paradise Island for berths and services, Highbourne Cay and Staniel Cay for fuel and the deeper approaches, Great Exuma at Georgetown, and the Abaco Sea only at its deeper western end. Winter is the season and it coincides with the fronts, which is the other reason the large yachts prefer harbours: a north westerly at thirty knots in an open anchorage is not where anybody wants a ninety metre boat.

Questions people ask about superyacht charter Bahamas

What is the top of the published Bahamas market?

The Moorings' Exumas range runs to 49,919 USD for a seven day crewed charter for two and Sailo's Nassau listings to 11,810 a day, read on 11 September 2026. Larger yachts are brokered privately and publish nothing.

Can a large yacht cruise the Exumas?

Only partly. The banks are two to four metres deep over a hundred miles and the cuts shoal at their edges, so a boat drawing four metres stays on the Exuma Sound side and runs tenders into the anchorages.

Where do the large yachts berth?

Nassau and Paradise Island for services, Highbourne Cay and Staniel Cay for fuel and deeper approaches, and Georgetown on Great Exuma. Winter fronts are the reason harbours are preferred over open anchorages.
