Florida keys yacht charter: what boat charters Florida keys cost at each end of the chain

The Florida Keys are a hundred and twenty miles of islands with a road down the middle and a reef three to six miles off the ocean side, and the charter market divides neatly by where you start. The upper Keys are a day rental market of small boats. Key West at the far end is a different economy altogether.

The upper Keys

Read on 11 September 2026, Sailo lists 21 boats in reach of Key Largo at an average of 1,027 USD a day, from 450 to 2,000, and 19 at Islamorada at an average of 1,080, from 450 to 2,000. Those are near identical markets an hour apart: center consoles and small cruisers taken to the reef at Molasses and Alligator for snorkelling, or into Florida Bay on the other side for the flats.

The two sides of the road

The ocean side has the only living coral barrier reef in the continental United States, three to six miles out in ten to forty feet of water, inside a national marine sanctuary with mooring buoys and a ban on anchoring on coral. The bay side is Florida Bay, two to five feet deep over grass flats for miles, which is a skiff and a bonefish guide rather than a yacht. The boat you want depends entirely on which side you booked for.

Key West

A hundred miles further and a different market: a deeper harbour, a larger fleet, day sails sold by the seat, and the Dry Tortugas seventy miles west, which is a fort on an island with no facilities and needs a self sufficient boat and a permit for an overnight. Nothing in the upper Keys listings prepares you for the range there, and a Keys charter that means Key West should say so at booking.
