Bahamas yacht charter: what a week costs, from the companies' own pages

The Bahamas is the one Caribbean cruising ground most American charterers can reach without a long-haul flight, and it is priced accordingly. The Moorings publishes a 7 day charter for 2 people in the Abacos from $5,579 to $24,179 on its own destination page, and prints power charters from $6,655 and skippered packages from $12,479 beside them. That is a real published range rather than a marketing figure, and it is more than most of this trade will put in writing at all.

How to price a Bahamas week without enquiring first

  1. Start from the base, not the island. Almost every bareboat in the Bahamas leaves from Marsh Harbour in the Abacos or from Nassau. The base decides the cruising you can do in a week far more than the boat does.
  2. Read the season before the boat. The Moorings' own Abacos range runs from $5,579 low season to $24,179 high season for the same 7 days and the same two people. Season is the single biggest lever on the price.
  3. Decide sail, power or crew. The same page prices power charters from $6,655 and skippered packages from $12,479. A skipper is not a small uplift here; it is roughly double the entry bareboat.
  4. Add the extras before you compare. Fuel, the cruising permit, provisioning and the security deposit are on top of every figure above, and a power charter burns fuel a sailing boat does not.

What the published Bahamas figures actually cover

The Moorings states its Abacos range as a 7 day charter for 2 people, which is the boat and the days rather than a per-person holiday price. Two people on a four-cabin catamaran pay the same for the yacht as six people would; the difference is what you spend on the rest. Read every weekly figure in this record the same way, because the trade quotes the boat and the traveller thinks in headcount.

SamBoat also lists Bahamas boats with a from-price against each one, but those are day-rate listings across the whole hire market rather than week-long yacht charters, and the cheapest listing on the page sets the number. It prices the entry to boat hire in the Bahamas; it does not price a charter week.

Why the Bahamas is not the cheap Caribbean

The Advance Provisioning Allowance is the part of a crewed charter that surprises people. It is not a fee and it is not profit: it is a float you hand the captain before the trip, usually a percentage of the charter fee, out of which fuel, food, drink, berthing and port charges are paid as they are incurred. What is left comes back to you with the accounts at the end. It sits on top of the weekly rate, it is not in any figure on this site, and a charter budget that omits it is wrong by a large margin.

The extras, in the trade's own numbers

A published weekly rate is the yacht. Everything else is charged on top, and the extras are large enough to change which boat you can afford. Sailing Holidays in Croatia publishes the clearest breakdown found in this record: a skipper at 1.260 EUR a week paid separately at embarkation, fuel around 100 EUR a week on a sailboat, marina and port fees averaging 450 EUR a week, and tourist tax at 1.35 EUR per person per day. On a crewed yacht the Advance Provisioning Allowance replaces most of that with one much larger number, and VAT or the local charter tax sits on top of both.

Questions people ask before they enquire

How much is a week's yacht charter in the Bahamas?
The Moorings publishes $5,579 to $24,179 for a 7 day charter for 2 people in the Abacos, depending on season and yacht, with power charters from $6,655 and skippered packages from $12,479. Those are its own published figures, read on 9 September 2026.
Is a Bahamas charter cheaper than the BVI?
Not at the entry. The Moorings' published Abacos range starts at $5,579 against $3,284 for the same 7 days in the British Virgin Islands. The Bahamas is closer to the US mainland, which is a travel saving rather than a charter saving.
Do I need a licence to charter a yacht in the Bahamas?
For a bareboat the company assesses your experience with a sailing resume rather than a licence, and will put a skipper aboard if it is not satisfied. That skipper is a cost, and it is worth settling before you book rather than at the dock.
