How to get a bareboat charter agreed
- Write an honest sailing resume. The company is deciding whether to hand you a boat worth several hundred thousand. Recent miles, boat size and the waters you have sailed matter more than any certificate.
- Have the right paper for the country. Greece, Croatia and Italy all expect a recognised certificate of competence and often a VHF licence for the skipper, and the requirement is the flag state's rather than the company's.
- Budget the skipper you might be told to take. If the resume does not satisfy the base, a skipper is the condition of the charter, not an upsell. A Croatian agency publishes 1.260 EUR a week for one.
