Nassau boat rental: what a day costs and where it goes

Nassau has the largest day boat market in the Bahamas and the highest prices in it, for a reason that has nothing to do with the sailing. New Providence takes millions of cruise arrivals a year into a harbour with Paradise Island on one side of it, and the boats on that water are sized and priced for a party of twelve who came ashore this morning and fly out on Thursday.

What Nassau charges

Read on 11 September 2026, Sailo lists 161 boats at Nassau at an average of 4,326 USD a day, the cheapest at 1,100 and the dearest at 11,810. That is three times the Marsh Harbour average of 1,420 a day for 72 boats in the Abacos, and it is very close to the national average of 4,384 because Nassau is most of the national market. Motor yachts and party catamarans dominate the listings, with sailing boats a minority.

Where Nassau boat charters take the day

Rose Island is six miles east and is the standard half day: sandbars, snorkelling on the reef and a beach club at Sandy Toes. Exuma Cays day trips, the ones that feature swimming pigs at Big Major and nurse sharks at Compass Cay, are eighty miles south and are flown or run by high speed powerboat rather than sailed. Blue Lagoon and Athol Island are twenty minutes out. Anything further than Rose Island is a full day and priced as one.

What is not in the price

Fuel beyond the stated allowance on the larger motor yachts, which on a 50 foot boat run hard for eight hours is a material number. Dockage if you choose to stop at Atlantis Marina rather than anchor. Park and beach club entry, which several Rose Island operators bill per head on arrival. Overrun hours. And the captain's gratuity, which is expected here at something like fifteen to twenty percent and is rarely stated in the listing price.

When the day boat is the wrong product

If you want more than two days on the water, charter rather than rent. The Moorings prices a seven day charter for two from 4,529 USD in the Exumas and 5,579 in the Abacos, which is a day and a bit at the Nassau average. Nassau is also the wrong end of the country for the cruising: the Exumas start sixty miles south and the Abacos are a hundred and thirty miles north, and both have their own bases.

Why is Nassau more expensive than the Abacos?

Nassau is a cruise port and its boats are sized for parties and priced for a captive day market. Marsh Harbour rents to people who already sail, and its 72 boats average 1,420 USD a day against 4,326 at Nassau.
