Location yacht Cannes: the day boats, the crewed weeks and the festival weeks

Cannes, Antibes and Nice are twenty miles of the same coast and three quite different charter markets. Cannes sells days on the bay and the Lerins islands. Antibes holds the largest superyacht marina in the Mediterranean. Nice is the airport and the departure point for both. A price from one says very little about the others.

The day market

Click&Boat lists French boats with a from-price against each one, running from a few hundred euro a day for small motor boats up to four figures for larger ones, and the floor moves as listings sell. SamBoat's French listings work the same way. That is the Cannes bay market: a boat for the day, usually with a skipper, out to the Lerins islands or along to Antibes and back.

The crewed market, which is published

YachtCharterFleet's French Riviera page lists weekly rates against named yachts, from 161,700 USD a week for a 51m Narasaki carrying 12 guests to 1,277,000 for an 82m Abeking & Rasmussen. Those are crewed boats with an Advance Provisioning Allowance on top, and they are the market Antibes and Monaco actually serve.

What sits between, and why it is hard to price

The 15 to 30 metre crewed market, which is where most Riviera charter enquiries actually land, is quoted by brokers against named boats and published almost nowhere. Neither the day marketplaces nor the superyacht listings reach it. Expect to enquire, and expect the first question back to be the week and the number of guests rather than a budget.

The weeks that change everything

The Cannes Film Festival in May, the Monaco Grand Prix in late May, and the Cannes Yachting Festival in September each take the coast's berths and its boats at multiples of the normal rate. If your dates are near any of them, either that is the point of the trip or you should move a fortnight either side, where the same coast costs a great deal less.
