Christmas and New Year are the two most expensive weeks of the year in the Caribbean charter trade and the only ones that reliably sell out a year ahead. What is unusual is how rarely anyone publishes the premium. One company does, on its own rate card, and the figure it prints is the clearest answer available to what the holiday actually costs.
The published premium
Conch Charters publishes a full seasonal rate card by boat and date band, and it follows one hull across the year. A four cabin Bali 4.2 of 2022 is 9,599 USD for the Christmas week and 6,599 from late April to mid July 2027, a difference of three thousand dollars on the same boat in the same harbour. That is a premium of about forty five percent over the best value band and it is charged on every hull in the fleet.
Where the holiday premium lands hardest
The Moorings' British Virgin Islands range runs from 3,284 USD to 49,584 for the same seven days and the same two people, and the top of that range is a crewed yacht in a holiday week. Its St Lucia range runs to 64,890 and its St Martin range to 53,606 on the same basis. A crewed charter at Christmas is the single most expensive product this trade sells outside the superyacht market.
When the bookings actually happen
Christmas and New Year weeks in the British Virgin Islands are commonly taken the previous autumn, twelve to fourteen months ahead, and by the spring what remains is the boats nobody wanted. The Mediterranean is the mirror image: December is out of season there, the fleets are hauled or in refit, and a Christmas charter means the Caribbean, the Bahamas, or crossing the world to Thailand or the Grenadines.
The cheaper way to have the same week
Two of them. Take the first week of December or the middle of January, which is the same weather and the same water at ordinary prices. Or take the value band the same company prints: 6,599 USD against 9,599 for that Bali 4.2, late April to mid July, before the hurricane season and after the crowds. Neither is Christmas, and both are the same holiday for two thirds of the money.
