Yacht rental Boston: what a block costs, and where new England yacht charter starts

New England has two boat markets and almost nothing in the middle. Boston, Newport and the Cape hire by the block on modest fleets for a harbour afternoon. Above that sits one of the most expensive crewed charter markets in the world, priced in seven figures a week. The gap between them is where most enquiries land and where least is published.

What Boston publishes

Sailo's Boston page lists boats individually with a rate against each, in the same block pricing it uses across its American fleet, on a fleet far smaller than Florida's. A Boston hire is a harbour afternoon: the inner harbour, the islands, and out past Deer Island if the weather allows. The season is short, roughly late May to early October, and the water is cold at both ends of it.

What New England charter means at the other end

YachtCharterFleet's New England page lists weekly rates against named yachts and they are the highest in this record: a 102m Lurssen of 2026 carrying 12 guests in 10 cabins from 2,786,000 USD a week, and a 107m Benetti of 2020 from 2,090,000. Those are yachts that summer in Newport and cruise the Cape and the islands, and they have nothing to do with the harbour hire market at all.

The middle, which is quoted rather than published

Between a Boston afternoon and a seven figure week sits the market most people actually want: a crewed sailing yacht or motor yacht of forty to eighty feet for a few days around Nantucket, Martha's Vineyard and Newport. It is brokered against named boats, it is heavily booked in July and August, and almost none of it is published. Expect to enquire with dates and a headcount rather than to compare rates.

The season, which is the real constraint

New England charters in a ten week window and everything is priced against that. Hurricane season overlaps the end of it, the water is cold until July, and the best sailing is often early September when the summer traffic has gone. A charter that could move from August to the first fortnight of September usually should.
