Bahamas boat rental: day rates across the islands and what they cover

Renting a boat in the Bahamas and chartering a yacht there are two different markets with two different price levels, and the gap between them is wide enough to be worth understanding before you search. The rental market is sold by the day with a captain, it clusters around Nassau and the Abacos, and it exists because most visitors arrive for four days rather than fourteen.

What a day costs across the country

Read on 11 September 2026, Sailo lists 245 boats across the Bahamas at an average of 4,384 USD a day, the cheapest at 499 and the dearest at 13,837. That national average is pulled hard by Nassau, where the same marketplace lists 161 boats averaging 4,326 a day with a floor of 1,100 and a ceiling of 11,810. Marsh Harbour in the Abacos is a different market entirely: 72 boats at an average of 1,420 a day, from 499 to 2,340.

Why Nassau costs three times the Abacos

Nassau is a cruise port with several million arrivals a year and the boats there are sized for parties and priced for a captive day market. Marsh Harbour is a cruising town: the boats are center consoles and small catamarans rented to people who already know what to do with them. The same money buys a 45 foot party catamaran with a crew in one place and a week's worth of day boat in the other.

Rental against a charter week

If the plan is seven days rather than one, the rental market is the expensive way to buy them. The Moorings prices a seven day charter for two from 4,529 USD in the Exumas and 5,579 in the Abacos, with additional costs from around 1,300 for two people on top. Against a Nassau day rate averaging 4,326, a week bareboat is cheaper than two days rented. The crossover is at roughly two days, which is why almost nobody rents by the day for longer than that.

What the rental price covers

Almost always a captain, fuel within a stated range, ice and snorkelling gear. Almost never the national park fees in the Exuma Cays Land and Sea Park, food beyond water, or a second tank of fuel if the day runs long. Rentals are quoted for a fixed departure point and a fixed return time, and overruns are billed by the hour. The listings state whether a captain is included or merely available, and the two prices are not the same.
