Greece has more charter catamarans than any other Mediterranean country and the fleets still run out of them every peak week. The islands suit them: the anchorages are deep, the summer breeze is often a beam reach, and the shallow draught opens bays a keel has to approach carefully. The price reflects all of that demand.
The published Greek catamaran figures
Istion Yachting starts its catamarans at 3.510 EUR a week for a Bali Catspace of 2023 carrying 12 guests in four cabins out of Athens, and 4.950 EUR for an Excess 14 of 2024 out of Lefkas, both offered bareboat or skippered. Nautilus Yachting puts a high season luxury catamaran with a skipper upwards of 10,000 pounds, which is the other end of the same market.
Catamaran rental, Greek islands: where the boats are based
Athens and Lavrion for the Saronic and the Cyclades, Lefkas, Preveza and Corfu for the Ionian, Paros and Mykonos out in the islands themselves, and Kos and Rhodes for the Dodecanese. Istion alone lists eleven Greek bases. Fleets are priced nationally and boats move between bases out of season, so the base changes your flights and your first day rather than your quote.
The Greek catamaran charter premium, and when it is worth paying
A catamaran costs meaningfully more than a monohull with the same cabin count, everywhere. It earns it in the Cyclades, where the meltemi makes a monohull week hard work for anyone who is not sailing, and in any week with children or non-sailors aboard. It earns it least in the Ionian in June, where a monohull is comfortable and the saving is real.
The berthing problem
Greek town quays are stern-to and tight and the catamaran berths are few. In August they are gone by mid afternoon at the popular islands, and the fallback is an anchorage, which in Greece is usually the better half of the day anyway. Crews who insist on a quay every night in high summer should take a monohull or plan to arrive early.
