Mallorca catamaran charter: what a day or a week costs out of Palma

Mallorca is the deepest charter market in the Mediterranean and the catamaran is a bigger share of it here than almost anywhere in Europe, because the island's best water is anchorages rather than harbours. The calas on the south and east coasts are shallow sand, the Tramuntana anchorages are deep and dramatic, and a boat that can lie flat over three metres of sand is the one everybody wants.

The cost of a catamaran here

Read on 11 September 2026, Sailo lists 406 boats at Palma de Mallorca, from a floor of 331 EUR a day to a ceiling of 8,500, with an 80 foot Italversil Superphantom for twelve at 6,300 EUR for four hours near the top. The Balearic catamaran market sits in the middle of that range: a modern four cabin forty five footer is roughly double a comparable monohull, which is the standard Mediterranean premium.

Day or week on a private catamaran: Mallorca's two markets

A private catamaran for a day off Palma is the commonest booking here and is usually captained, priced by four or eight hour block, and aimed at a group of ten or twelve. A bareboat week is the other product entirely: handed over on a Saturday at Palma, Alcudia or Portocolom with a briefing and a deposit, and requiring a recognized certificate for the named skipper. The two are quoted on different bases and are not comparable.

Where the catamaran wins

Cala d'Or, Portocolom, Cala Llombards and the south eastern calas, all sand at three to six metres where a shallow draught puts you inside the shelf. Espalmador and the Formentera sandbanks, sixty miles south west, which is the single most chartered anchorage in Spain and shallow enough to matter. Where it loses is a berth: Palma and Port de Soller charge a catamaran by the square metre in August and often simply have no space.

The season and the wind

June and September are the value months with the same weather as August and a fraction of the traffic. The wind to plan around is the Tramuntana, which funnels over the north west mountains and makes that coast untenable while leaving the south flat, and the embat, a reliable afternoon sea breeze of ten to fifteen knots on the south coast that is the best sailing of the day.
