Sibenik is the quietest of the four big Croatian charter regions and the best placed for the two national parks. The Krka waterfalls are up the river behind the town and the Kornati archipelago is a morning's sail out from it, which is a combination no other base on this coast offers. It also happens to publish both halves of its hire market on one page.
The day boat and the charter week, both published
Croatia Yachting's Sibenik page carries a Rent a Boat line starting at 100 euro a day beside its charter fleet, where a three cabin Hanse 415 at D-Marin Mandalina read from 752 for a week. Having both on one page makes the gap unusually legible: a day boat and a week aboard are not the same product at different lengths, they are different trades that happen to share a marina.
Where the boats lie
D-Marin Mandalina sits on the southern side of the channel below the old town, past the fortress and the narrow entrance that makes Sibenik one of the most sheltered harbours on the Adriatic. It is a working marina rather than a promenade, which is why it is calmer at handover than the Split area bases, and the run out to open water is about twenty minutes through a channel that is worth doing slowly.
What a Sibenik week is for
Two national parks and less traffic. Kornati is bare limestone, almost uninhabited, and charged for entry at the park boundary; Krka is up the river and reached by dinghy or on foot from Skradin. A week from here usually spends half its days in the archipelago and half working south towards Primosten and the Split islands, which is a quieter version of the standard Dalmatian route.
