Phuket has the best value crewed charter market in the world, and the reason is a local yard and crewing industry that costs a fraction of the Mediterranean's serving a cruising ground that stands with any in the world for five months of the year. What is expensive here is the flight; what is cheap is everything once you are on the boat.
The range
Read on 11 September 2026, Sailo's Thailand listings run to 37,500 USD a day at the top across 273 boats, with a floor of 435. Click and Boat lists 295 boats averaging 1,215 EUR a day with a 17 metre five cabin catamaran with a skipper and fuel included from 2,529 EUR a day. Out of Phuket specifically, a captained Axopar 37 Sun Top for six is 2,200 USD for eight hours.
Why crewed is the default here
Thai crew are excellent, cheap by international standards and familiar with water that punishes an unfamiliar skipper: imperfect charts, steep limestone with fringing reef, and a two to three metre tidal range that dries parts of Phang Nga Bay at springs. The result is that a crewed catamaran in Thailand costs less than a bareboat one in the Caribbean, which is true of nowhere else in this record.
The season, which is short
November to April is settled, dry and eight to fifteen knots. December through February is the peak and Christmas and New Year sell out the way they do in the Caribbean. May to October is the south west monsoon: swell on the West Coast, heavy rain, squalls, and a fleet that either moves to the Gulf of Thailand or hauls out. A cheap charter in August is cheap for a reason.
What a week covers
Phang Nga Bay for the karsts and the hongs, the sea caves you enter by tender at the right state of tide. Koh Phi Phi and Koh Lanta south, Similan and Surin north west for diving, and the Trang islands beyond. National parks charge per person per day across most of it. Forty to sixty miles is a comfortable week and the boat moves in the morning and lies at anchor by lunchtime.
