Catamaran charter St Vincent Grenadines: where the week starts and what it costs

The Grenadines are the best sailing in the Caribbean and the worst place to learn it. Thirty two islands strung over sixty miles between St Vincent and Grenada, almost all of them uninhabited or nearly so, with open passages between them and no sheltered channel of the kind that makes the British Virgin Islands so easy. A catamaran is the usual boat, and the reasons are anchoring and draught rather than comfort.

What a St Vincent catamaran charter costs

The chain has no large bareboat base of its own, so most weeks start in St Lucia to the north or Grenada to the south and sail into it. Read on 11 September 2026, The Moorings prices a seven day charter for two from 2,464 USD out of St Lucia and 2,634 out of Grenada, with crewed yachts from 13,949 and 16,149 respectively at the top of those ranges. Sailo lists 16 boats inside St Vincent and the Grenadines itself at 2,542 USD a day, which is the day charter market rather than the week.

A Grenadines yacht charter, north to south through the chain

From Bequia, an hour from St Vincent and the one island with a proper town, the run goes to Mustique, Canouan, Mayreau, the Tobago Cays and Union Island, then over to Carriacou and down to Grenada. The Tobago Cays are the reason people come: four uninhabited islands behind a horseshoe reef with nothing on them. Sixty miles covers the whole chain, so a week is unhurried in one direction and hard work in both.

Why a catamaran rather than a monohull

The anchorages here are sand at three to six metres behind reef, and a catamaran's shallow draught puts you inside the shelf where a monohull sits outside it in the swell. There are few marinas and almost no mooring balls outside the Tobago Cays, so you anchor most nights and a catamaran lies quieter at anchor. The counterweight is money: the same fleets charge roughly two and a half times a comparable monohull for the same week.

Clearing in and out

St Vincent and the Grenadines and Grenada are separate countries, so a one way week between them clears customs twice and the charter company will want to know which direction you are going before it quotes. Union Island and Carriacou are the usual clearance ports at the southern end and Bequia at the northern. Budget an hour ashore at each and carry the boat papers the base gives you.

How much is a catamaran in the Grenadines?

Sailo lists 16 boats across St Vincent and the Grenadines at 2,542 USD a day, read on 11 September 2026. A week sailed in from St Lucia starts at 2,464 USD with The Moorings for a bareboat for two.

Where do Grenadines charters start?

Usually St Lucia at the north end or Grenada at the south, because neither St Vincent nor the small islands carry a large bareboat fleet. One way weeks between the two clear customs twice.

Is a week enough for the Grenadines?

Sixty miles covers the whole chain, so a week is comfortable one way and busy as a round trip. Most parties sail south with the wind behind them and fly home from Grenada.
