Fiji is three hundred and thirty islands and the best value charter ground in the South Pacific, with two archipelagos close enough to Nadi to be reached on the first afternoon. It is also the one place in this ocean where a bareboat is genuinely practical, because the Mamanucas and Yasawas run north in a chain with sheltered water behind the reef most of the way.
What a Fiji boat charter costs
Read on 11 September 2026, Sailo lists 18 boats in Fiji at an average of 1,775 USD a day, between 1,750 and 1,800, including a captained 33 foot custom for twelve at Nadi at 908 USD for four hours and a 43 foot Norseman 430 of 2016 for twelve at 1,800 USD for eight hours. Click and Boat lists 9 boats at an average of 1,655 EUR a day, from a floor of 33 to a ceiling of 3,224.
The Mamanucas and the Yasawas
The Mamanucas start six miles west of Denarau and are the near group: twenty small islands, resorts on many of them, sheltered water and hops of an hour. The Yasawas run north from them for fifty miles and are wilder, with fewer resorts, the Sawa i Lau caves and the Blue Lagoon at the northern end. A week does the Mamanucas and the southern Yasawas comfortably; ten days reaches the top.
What the reef asks for
Fiji is a coral country and the passes through the reefs are navigated by eye in good light, which means between about nine in the morning and three in the afternoon with the sun behind you. Charts are improving but not complete. The practical effect is a day that starts late and finishes early, and a fleet that is more heavily skippered than the Caribbean's. Local knowledge of the passes is the thing being bought.
The rest of the South Pacific
Tonga's Vava'u group is the other bareboat ground in this ocean and is sheltered and compact. French Polynesia's Leeward Islands are the third, and Click and Boat lists 163 boats there at an average of 660 EUR a day, which is cheaper than Fiji per day but much further to fly to. New Caledonia and Vanuatu carry small fleets. Nothing in the South Pacific has the density of the Caribbean, and the flights are the real cost of any of it.
