Brazil has forty six hundred miles of coast and a charter market concentrated into about a hundred of them, between Rio de Janeiro and Paraty. Angra dos Reis and the Ilha Grande bay behind it hold hundreds of islands in sheltered water two hours from Rio, and that bay is most of what the country charters.
What a boat costs
Read on 11 September 2026, Click and Boat lists 326 boats in Brazil at an average of 868 EUR a day, from a floor of 188, and Sailo lists 43 at an average of 2,218 USD a day, from 300 to 5,555. The gap is the usual one in this record: the two marketplaces carry different fleets, with Sailo weighted towards larger crewed motor yachts out of Rio and Angra.
Angra dos Reis and Ilha Grande
Three hundred and sixty five islands in a bay ninety miles west of Rio, sheltered by Ilha Grande from the Atlantic swell, with granite hills, rainforest to the waterline and anchorages every mile. Paraty, a colonial town at the western end, is the other base. Hops are half an hour to two hours and the water is flat. It is the best sheltered cruising ground in South America.
Buzios and the northern coast
A hundred miles east of Rio, a peninsula with a dozen beaches and a day charter market aimed at holidaymakers rather than a week long fleet. Beyond it the coast runs north to Bahia and Salvador, where there is another small charter trade, and to Fernando de Noronha, which is an offshore archipelago with strict visitor limits and no charter fleet at all.
