Yacht charter in Indonesia: Komodo, Raja Ampat and what a day costs

Indonesia is seventeen thousand islands and two charter grounds. Komodo, in the Lesser Sunda islands, is where almost every liveaboard week runs. Raja Ampat, in West Papua, is where the diving is best and the logistics hardest. Everything else, Bali included, is a day market or a passage.

Yacht rental Indonesia: what is published

Read on 11 September 2026, Click and Boat lists 27 boats in Indonesia at an average of 1,071 EUR a day, from a floor of 241 to a ceiling of 2,160, and Sailo lists 54 in reach of Bali at an average of 1,584 USD a day, from 910 to 2,750. Both understate the market, because the Indonesian liveaboard trade is sold per cabin by operators rather than listed per boat on marketplaces.

Komodo

Reached by air to Labuan Bajo on Flores, not sailed to. The week runs among Komodo, Rinca and Padar with the dragons on two of them, Pink Beach, and the manta cleaning stations at Karang Makassar. Currents between the islands are strong and the passes are timed. The boats are phinisi, traditional wooden two masted schooners built in Sulawesi and fitted out as liveaboards, with a crew of eight to twelve.

Raja Ampat

Fifteen hundred miles east of Bali, reached by two flights to Sorong. It has the highest recorded marine biodiversity on earth and almost no infrastructure, so charters are ten to twelve nights, fully provisioned from Sorong and self sufficient. The season is October to April; outside it the crossing from Sorong is uncomfortable and many boats reposition to Komodo.

What sailing Indonesia does not mean

A bareboat. There is effectively no bareboat fleet in the country: the distances are large, the charts are poor, the currents through the passes are severe and the paperwork for a foreign flagged vessel is substantial. Every charter here is crewed, and the crew is the part that makes the itinerary possible rather than merely comfortable.
