Luxury yacht charter Spain: what the top of the Spanish market costs, and what luxury yacht charter barcelona means beside Palma

Spain's luxury charter fleet is not spread across the country; it is concentrated in the Bay of Palma with an Ibiza season attached to it, and everywhere else is a satellite. That concentration is the result of tax rules, yard capacity and airport connections rather than coastline, and it means the answer to where to charter a large yacht in Spain is usually Mallorca whatever the guest asked for.

The published ceilings

Read on 11 September 2026, Sailo's Palma de Mallorca listings run to 8,500 EUR a day at the top with an 80 foot Italversil Superphantom for twelve guests at 6,300 EUR for four hours, across 406 boats. Barcelona's 39 listings top out at 6,000 EUR a day with an average of 2,176. That ratio, ten times the fleet and a higher ceiling in Palma, is the shape of the Spanish market in one comparison.

Why Palma and not Barcelona

Palma has the berths, the refit yards and the crew, and the Balearics are the cruising ground the yachts are chartered to use. Barcelona has a commercial harbour, a short season and no islands on its doorstep, so the large boats that visit are in transit. A charter booked in Barcelona for a week will spend most of it crossing to Mallorca or Ibiza anyway, which is a hundred miles and a day of the week.

The Ibiza season

From June to September the large end of the Balearic fleet moves to Ibiza and Formentera, and the anchorage off Espalmador becomes the most concentrated display of chartered yachts in Spain. Prices in those weeks are set by the destination rather than the boat, berths at Ibiza Magna and Marina Botafoch are booked months ahead, and a yacht without a berth anchors and runs a tender, which is what most of them do.

What sits on top of the fee

On a crewed yacht of this size, an Advance Provisioning Allowance of roughly a quarter to a third of the charter fee is paid in advance and covers fuel, food, drink, berthing and port charges, with the unspent balance returned. Spanish value added tax applies to charters beginning in Spanish waters. A crew gratuity of five to fifteen percent is conventional and is not included in any quoted figure.
