The Amalfi Coast has no harbour big enough to base a fleet in, so the boats that work it live at Sorrento on the other side of the peninsula, at Salerno to the east and at Naples and Castellammare to the north. That is why the searches return Sorrento when you ask for Positano, and it is also why almost everything here is sold by the day rather than by the week.
Yacht rental Italy, Amalfi coast: what a day costs
Read on 11 September 2026, Sailo lists 312 boats in reach of Sorrento at an average of 1,808 EUR a day, from a floor of 263 to a ceiling of 7,350. Among the listings a 38 foot Aprea Libeccio for twelve guests with a captain is 1,080 EUR for eight hours and a new 35 foot Apreamare gozzo for eight is 1,400 EUR for eight hours. Across the water at Capri, three boats are listed averaging 1,350 EUR a day.
The gozzo, again
The Sorrentine gozzo is the local boat and the two listings above are both versions of it: a high bowed wooden hulled launch, canopy over the cockpit, built for exactly this coast. It takes the swell that comes round the point, it gets into the small bays under Positano and Furore, and it is what the local operators actually run. A sailing catamaran is a better boat for a week and a worse one for a day here.
Where the day goes
West from Sorrento round Punta Campanella to Capri, which is the classic and takes most of a day with the grottoes. East along the coast under Positano, Praiano and Amalfi with a stop at the Furore fjord and the Emerald Grotto. Or north to Ischia and Procida, which are quieter, cheaper ashore and better for swimming. The coast road is so slow in summer that the boat is genuinely the fast way to move.
A week rather than a day
For seven days the sensible base is Naples or Salerno rather than the Amalfi coast itself, and the week runs Capri, Ischia, Procida, Ponza and back, or south to the Cilento. Sailo lists 12 boats at Naples at an average of 2,498 EUR a day, including a captained 60 foot Nautor Swan at 1,715 EUR for eight hours. Berths on the Amalfi coast in August are the binding constraint, not the boat.
Questions people ask about amalfi coast catamaran charter
How much is a catamaran on the Amalfi Coast?
Sailo lists 312 boats around Sorrento averaging 1,808 EUR a day, from 263 to 7,350, read on 11 September 2026. A captained 38 foot Aprea is 1,080 EUR for eight hours.
Is a Positano yacht charter possible from the town itself?
Barely. Positano has no harbour of any size, so the fleets are at Sorrento, Salerno, Naples and Castellammare and the boats come to you. That is why searches for Positano return Sorrento listings.
What is a gozzo?
The traditional Sorrentine launch: high bowed, wooden hulled, canopy over the cockpit. It handles the swell round Punta Campanella and reaches the small bays under Positano, and it is what local operators run.
Is a week worth it here?
Yes, but based at Naples or Salerno rather than the Amalfi coast, running Capri, Ischia, Procida and Ponza. Berths on the coast itself in August are the constraint rather than the boat.
