Seychelles catamaran charter: what a boat charter Seychelles week costs, from two fleets that publish it

The Seychelles is the one Indian Ocean cruising ground with a real charter fleet, and it is unusual in that two companies publish what a week there costs. The sailing is between the inner granitic islands, Mahe, Praslin and La Digue, with short passages, deep water and some of the best anchorages anywhere.

What a Seychelles week costs

The Moorings states on its own Seychelles page that chartering there starts from $6,574 to $15,908, based on a 7 day charter for 2 people. Sunsail's Seychelles page carries $4,479. That floor is the second highest in this record after the Bahamas, and the ceiling is notably low: this is a bareboat and small crewed market without the superyacht tail that widens the Caribbean and Mediterranean ranges.

Where the week goes

From Mahe or Praslin around the inner islands: Praslin for the Vallee de Mai, La Digue for the granite beaches, Curieuse and Cousin for the wildlife, and the anchorages at Ste Anne and Baie Ternay. Passages are ten to twenty miles in mostly settled conditions. It is a short cruising ground and a week covers it comfortably without long days.

Why catamarans again

Shallow granite-fringed anchorages, a week largely at rest, and marine park rules that favor mooring buoys over anchoring in several bays. The fleet here is catamaran-heavy for the same reasons as Thailand and French Polynesia: the boat is a base rather than a passage-maker, and the extra draught of a monohull buys nothing in these islands.

The season and the park fees

The southeast trades blow from May to October, cooler and breezier with more swell; the northwest monsoon from November to April is calmer and hotter with more rain. Both are chartered. Marine park fees are charged per person per day in several of the best anchorages and are not in any published rate, which on a week in the parks is a real addition.
