Sailing mallorca: what mallorca sailing costs, and why the Tramuntana side is a different island

Mallorca looks like one cruising ground and sails like two. The north west is the Tramuntana, a mountain range dropping fifteen hundred metres into the sea with three shelters in fifty miles. The south and east are low, shallow and lined with calas. Which one you get depends on the wind on the day, and a week usually has to choose.

What a boat costs

Read on 11 September 2026, Sailo lists 406 boats at Palma de Mallorca from a floor of 331 EUR a day to a ceiling of 8,500, with an 80 foot Italversil for twelve at 6,300 EUR for four hours near the top. Click and Boat lists 9,443 boats across Spain at an average of 599 EUR a day. Palma is the deepest charter market in the Mediterranean and the choice at any price point is unusually wide.

The Tramuntana coast

From Palma west round Cap de Cala Figuera and up: Port d'Andratx, Sa Dragonera, then fifty miles of cliff with Sa Foradada, Cala Deia and the Port de Soller the only shelters until Pollenca. It is the most spectacular coast in the Balearics and it is exposed to anything from the north west, which is exactly what the tramuntana brings. A day there needs a forecast and a plan to get back.

The south and east

From Palma east to Cala Pi, Cala Figuera, Portocolom, Cala d'Or and Portopetro: limestone inlets with sand at three to six metres, pine to the water and the embat, a reliable afternoon sea breeze of ten to fifteen knots. It is flat, forgiving and where almost every charter week actually goes. Ibiza and Formentera are sixty miles south west from here if the week is long enough.
