Saint Tropez is a small fishing village with the most expensive anchorage in Europe outside it. The old port takes about a hundred boats and the waiting list in August is theoretical rather than real, so almost everything lies at anchor in the bay at Pampelonne or in the Golfe. Chartering here is buying a day inside that scene, and the price reflects the scene more than the boat.
What a day costs
Read on 11 September 2026, Sailo lists 162 boats around Saint Tropez, from a floor of 570 EUR a day to a ceiling of 24,000. The listings run the whole way up: a 132 foot Cantieri Rossato for twelve guests on the Cote d'Azur at 13,960 EUR for eight hours, a 38 foot Pardo motor yacht for nine at Saint Tropez itself at 3,550 for eight hours, and a Fountaine Pajot Helia 44 sailing catamaran for eight at 2,300 for eight hours.
The catamaran is the value here
A 44 foot sailing catamaran at 2,300 EUR for eight hours against a 38 foot motor yacht at 3,550 is the clearest illustration of what this market prices. The catamaran carries fewer people faster nowhere, but it is the boat that anchors comfortably off Pampelonne all afternoon, and it costs two thirds of the motor yacht's day. If the plan is a day at anchor rather than a run along the coast, it is the better buy by a distance.
Where the day goes
Out of the Golfe de Saint Tropez to the Pampelonne beach clubs, which is where the tenders run all afternoon, or south around Cap Camarat to the anchorages at Cap Taillat and Cap Lardier, which are a nature reserve and far quieter. Further west the Iles d'Hyeres, Porquerolles and Port Cros, are twenty five miles and the one genuinely beautiful cruising ground on this coast.
August, and the rest of the year
The month of August is the top of every range on this coast and is the only month in which the anchorage off Pampelonne is genuinely full. June and September carry the same weather and considerably lower prices, and the beach clubs are open in both. The mistral blows down from the north west several times a month and flattens the sea while making it cold and grey, which is the one weather feature worth planning around.
Questions people ask about st tropez yacht charter
How much is a yacht charter in St Tropez?
Sailo lists 162 boats from 570 EUR a day to 24,000, read on 11 September 2026. A 38 foot Pardo is 3,550 EUR for eight hours and a 132 foot custom motor yacht is 13,960.
What is the best value boat here?
A sailing catamaran. A Fountaine Pajot Helia 44 is 2,300 EUR for eight hours against 3,550 for a 38 foot motor yacht, and it is the better boat for a day anchored off Pampelonne.
Can you get a berth in the old port?
In August, effectively no. The port takes about a hundred boats and the demand in peak weeks is many times that, so charters anchor in the Golfe or off Pampelonne and run a tender ashore.
